Mindless rush
I take pride in keeping an impeccable kitchen. My pantry is stocked,
the fridge is full, and even the bottles and jars are labelled. Too good
for a working woman, isn't it. Well almost :) So then what am I hinting
at?
Just the other day ( or so it seems, though its almost 7 months back), I realized that out of my set of 5 pressure cooker sets in all shapes and sizes, not one was working optimally. Reason - gasket issues, safety valves missing, and a couple of loose nuts and bolts due to incessant pounding by my house-help when she tries to clean these items. So I put them all in a bag, and planned to go out that weekend and get them all fixed at the store where I bought these from.
However, seven months and several weekends later, they are all lying in the very same bag, in one corner of my kitchen counter. People say, "out of sight is out of mind". However, this one is well within sight, yet out of mind. I forgot or you can say ignored to tend to this work at hand in a timely manner, and the end result is right there to be shared with all of you.
But hey, this is not the only thing that I kept forgetting about in the recent past. 2 unfinished paintings, 3 ready to stitch dress materials that need to go to a tailor, couple of tiles that had popped out of a corner of a study and the list is endless ...
Do you notice the constant factor in this entire story so far? It is that I "FORGOT". Well, I am a human being, and human beings do forget things , no doubt. But it is not just that. It is also the "LACK OF WILL" on my part to complete such jobs at hand.
Why is it so? Is it because I
feel my entire life is consumed by my time in front of the office desk?
Or, is it that I purposely overlook since I do not have enough time at
my disposal for myself , leave alone personal errands and chores.
For the forgetfulness part, I probably need a reminder system, to ensure that I am not missing out on such tasks - like a hand-written note nicely stuck on the fridge with the help of a magnet .... or even a sticky notes software that pops up on my laptop monitor at regular intervals.
However, the worrying factor is the lack of will due to lack of any quality time outside work to be able to execute the daily tasks - and more so , that absolute lack of "me" time.
Hasn't the busy corporate work life taken a toll over most of us? Isn't this a familiar story in the lives of millions who toil around the clock? And if so, what is it that we are doing about it? Its time we got up and recognized the damage being done to the "self" due to this inexplicable work culture that has permeated every other country, culture and world in general. This mindless rush .... that leads us to no-where.
